I have been doing industry for a good while. I have built up a good book of BPO's and I am pushing for a fully self-reliant industrial division (which we are doing right now). The issue comes down to keeping people active and involved in the industrial process. New players are always asking what they can do to help out with the corp and if they are industrial-centric, this is a perfect opportunity to have them involved in the corp success.
What we do here, now that the industry division has a decent ISK flow and a good amount of liquid capital, we can take on larger/longer projects like large scale T2 manufacturing and capital construction. In the very near future I will task the corp with helping produce freighters and Orca's (if the market works on the latter). Capitals are time consuming and require lots of minerals, so the more hands that can be involved, the lighter the workload and the faster things can be built. With my toons, I can use around 40 production slots, but if I can delegate the smaller items to members, I can focus on the larger ones. If members have higher production skills, they can of course be encouraged to help with the larger or more complex manufacturing orders.
One way that I found works well is to send out emails of production order requests with how much of what item is needed and what the corp will pay for them. On T1 items, the margin is very narrow so the payout might not be much more than 10% over cost. Members wont get rich, but if they aren't using their production slots, it is a win-win for both. I lieu of spamming corp emails, I created a mailing list just for production orders. People join it and when they can/wish to fill a production order, they just respond to the mailing list with what they are able to build and that way everyone on the mailing list knows who is doing what in order to avoid overlap and duplication. This is just one simple way of getting the masses into mass production. Do you have a good way of doing things to involve your corp, post it in the comments and as always, fly safe-ish.
EDIT: Crius Release Addendum
I came up with this idea called "builders packs". I am in the building supply industry, and some of our contractors/builders offer what's called a "builders package". Basically, they come up with the cost of the land and the building of the structure in one package. What my idea is, assemble the BPO, minerals, components, etc into a contract and hand them out to members who wish to build items for the corp. Generally, this will be a based on a production request. This allows people with limited BPO's to still be active in the corporation building program. Members would be paid for their time based on the BPO and would involve some sort of profit sharing. While I don't have all the kinks worked out, with the Crius release, it makes this idea more feasible and accessible. I will put out a post based on the experiences with Crius. Maybe this idea will work for you and you can implement it. Be sure to leave your comments!
