It's been a long while since I mined anything. I was doing T2 production and there is enough profit it in to put up buy orders in market hubs and wait for them to be fulfilled. Mining is pretty damn boring, especially in high sec. It can also be pretty dangerous as there is always someone who wants to perform a gank on your and remove your capsule from your hull. Sadly, most people shit-fit their exhumers and mining barges for output rather than safety. They are prime targets for gankers (especially Hulk-hunters). Mining is good if you like watching paint dry, but there are so many other things to do it Eve. Like I said, I haven't in a while, but when I was mining, it was with an orca, two hulks and a freighter (if I was "solo" mining). When we had corp mining ops, we would have anywhere from 4-7 barges/exhumbers, 1 or two orca's and a freighter. We started using freighters once they were changed to allow loading and unloading in space (they could always do so with POS parts). That opened up a huge window of oppportunity for freighter pilots. It also made the fleet commander's job a lot easier because it freed up some logistical spots. FC's no longer needed to pull the boosting Orca off the field, or have multiple haulers in industrial ships run back and forth. Not having the ore in space was also a benefit of a freighter in your mining fleet. It lessened the chance of can-flipping. Freighters really became much more versitile and you could guess that by the price. When I bought my Obelisk and Fenrir, I spent about 650-750mil on each hull. Now they regularly sell for 1.2bil. Yes, it's nearly double. That is how much more useful they became. If I ever mine again, I wont do it in a fleet without an Orca and a freighter.
What are you thoughts on freighters?
Until next time, Fly Safe-ish
